Into My World (from Countdown – 2018)

Taken from EXO’s excellent Japanese album, Into My World feels like the soundtrack to some neon-hued sci-fi epic. Its electronic backbone pulses loud and proud, giving the track an immense energy. The production even throws in a few tiger growls, in case the rest of the instrumental wasn’t in-your-face enough. It’s all tethered to a catchy, chant-heavy chorus that uses its simplicity to its advantage. Into My World’s structure is constantly spiraling here and there, echoing its frantic techno underpinnings. It builds to a striking climax, with heavy synth stabs that play like organs in some post-apocalyptic church. This is a world I need EXO to revisit.
