Smile On My Face (from Don’t Mess Up My Tempo / Love Shot – 2018)

As the closest that the Don’t Mess Up My Tempo album comes to a ballad, the atmospheric, mid-tempo Smile On My Face offers a soothing respite from the more bombastic tracks surrounding it. The layered chorus draws on EXO’s trademark vocals, echoing their refrain with a catchy instrumental break. The verses are less memorable, underlined by languid synths and understated snare drum percussion. The guys have delivered stronger material within this same wheelhouse, but the song’s restrained arrangement helps to make it stand out.
