K-Pop A-Z Review: f(x) – Me+U

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Keep up with f(x)’s A-Z reviews here!

Me+U (from Nu ABO – 2012)

After a long wait, MeU would eventually become f(x)’s official fan name. But, it got its start one year into the group’s career with Me+U. This is a deeply weird track, bumping over a repetitive 8bit electro beat that sounds like a video game on steroids. Over the top, the girls give a hyper-aegyo performance, their vocals pitched high and airy as if they’ve been possessed by completely different personalities. Usually, I’d find this a little grating, but Me+U is bonkers enough that the affected performance fits right in. Two-thirds of the way through, we pause for a heartier bridge before falling back into the song’s monotonous charms. Few groups could get away with a track like this!
