Hot Summer (from Hot Summer – 2011)
Originally a single by German pop group Monrose, I’ve always considered Hot Summer to be f(x)’s most approachable title track. That may be because the entire song is set up to support its catchy, angular chorus. The distorted synth beat pounces with the best of f(x)’s music, ornamented with a well-used carnival barker vocal sample. Other than that, the frame of the beat never really changes, giving Hot Summer a single-minded appeal.
Apart from the switch between chanted verses and melodic chorus, the arrangement maintains a similar lurching energy throughout the entire track. It feels constantly off-balance, which is really a hallmark of early-f(x). Thankfully, the melodies are quite strong – especially during the pre-chorus when the song really opens up. Extra points go to the breezy vocal delivery, which offsets the crunchy instrumental to provide a palpable breath of summer.

Hot Summer is absolutely amazing , actually , it was one of the first second gen groups songs I had heard and was my Top 50 k-pop songs of all time (now it isn’t even in my Top 150).
It’s an awesome song and I love the beat it uses and then again , I’ll always love F(x)’s performance and Vocals , I just wished that they were given better material to chew on (I like their Title Tracks but their Vocals and Energy says something higher , It would have been cool to have a female counterpart to SHINee)

I got into f(x) with their Pinocchio album, and the repackaged Hot Summer didn’t work for me initially. But I’ve come to love its brash sound. The Korean pronunciation of sunglasses is a highlight for me.
I remember a Youtuber saying it’s the kind of summer song that makes you hotter, rather than cooling you down.

This song always charmed me because I was well versed in the monrose version before ever knowing of f(x) and seeing that they covered it – after becoming familiar with them – instantly amused and charmed me.
