…Is It Ok? (from Hot Summer – 2011)
I’ve always loved Is It Ok’s introductory instrumental. It primes the listener for a big, grandiose show that materializes gradually as the rest of the song unfolds. The ornate production is perfectly paired with a light, swirling melody that pretty much foreshadows the entirety of Lovelyz’ early discography. It’s far more innocent sounding than most of f(x)’s work, but the girls sell the sentiment. Still, Is It Ok’s biggest charm is that it actually grows stronger as it goes on. From surprising stabs of brass to rhythmic ad-libs, there are so many great touches that take this beyond a typical album track.
Fun fact: this is an early work from producer Hwang Hyun (of Monotree fame), which explains why it sounds so much like a Sweetune song.

‘Is It Okay” was always so fun! It was a nice break and a very different style compared to the rest of the album. Indeed reminds me of Lovelyz/April.

This song is very happy clappy SM style. This is the label’s style of ultra positive fan service song. SuJu puts out one of these every other year, for example “Happiness” from 2007 is very close in feel to this
