My Style (from Pinocchio / Hot Summer – 2011)

My Style’s splashy introduction feels tailor-made for early-00’s Beyoncé, harnessing drumline-like percussion before settling into a sticky electro groove. I love the synth accents during the song’s verses. They feel pretty canned and cheesy, but their sheer exuberance gives My Style plenty of charm. Meanwhile, the chorus brings back the brassy bombast. There’s not a lot to it, but the production bounds forward with more than enough drama to compensate. Add to that an unflagging groove and My Style stands as a perfectly solid album track.
