La Cha Ta (from La Cha Ta – 2009)
Given their penchant for off-kilter, experimental material, what could an f(x) debut possibly sound like? Well, flash back to 2009 and you’ll find La Cha Ta. There are certainly touches of what would come later, but the song itself slots nicely in line with the style of music that was popular during that year. It’s slightly edgier than SNSD’s work up to that point, but still relatively straightforward. The instrumental has the herky-jerky rhythm of an early-00’s pop track, and the vocals are full-throated and fresh.
La Cha Ta isn’t particularly complex, but it bears an instantly memorable chorus that repeats itself often. In contrast to f(x)’s more abrasive work, the track makes room for some impressive harmonies, giving the final product a sheen unusual for debuts. It’s a perfectly enjoyable way to start their career, but f(x) would go on to deliver far more interesting material.

~ Rest in peace, Sulli. We will forever be grateful for the incredible music and spirit you left behind ~
I really enjoy La Cha Ta, I think the after-chorus-whateveritis-sing-talk is extremely catchy and does anyone else think f(x) and Infinite are two sides of the same coin?

I kind of always saw f(x) and SHINee as two sides of the same coin, especially given they were always pushed as “sibling” groups. SM tended to experiment with those two the most as well, they were like Guinea pigs for new sounds and ideas.

This is one of their most accessible singles, fills out the F(x) soundscape. It provided the springboard to expand their sound into the weird and experimental later tracks.
Someone asked me on an earlier f(x) A-Z post, what my top f(x) are, and so after some thought, here they are:
1 Red Light
2 Airplane
3 All Mine
4 Walls
5 Chu
6 Electric Shock
7 La Cha Ta
8 Nu Abo
9 Rum Pum Pum
10 Pinocchio – Danger
