K-Pop A-Z Review: f(x) – Love Hate

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Love Hate (from Electric Shock – 2012)

Love Hate wastes no time getting started. The verses are delightfully playful, and feel as if they’re constantly struggling to keep up with themselves. The pre-chorus is even better, as the melody takes a perfect swerve. Love Hate would be a total standout with a stronger chorus in place of the simple chant that makes up its centerpiece. But, its stomping verses more than make up for this deficit. The production stuffs so many exciting elements together and forces them to compete with each other in delightful ways. And just when you think you’ve got the track pegged, Love Hate bursts into a streamlined bridge that takes the song back to the 80’s.
