Shadow (from Pink Tape – 2013)
Shadow emerges as track two in the Pink Tape album, and has always suffered in comparison to Rum Pum Pum Pum. Under the hood, the song is almost as experimental, but the overall arrangement is much more muted. Warped vocals open Shadow and remain a reoccurring presence, melded with music box-like percussion and jazzy touches of distorted synths. The entire thing sounds like a runny watercolor painting – barely holding its form before it blends into an amorphous puddle. This approach is admirable – made more so by f(x)’s light vocal performance of the sprightly melody – but it can be difficult to grasp onto.

~ Rest in peace, Sulli. We will forever be grateful for the incredible music and spirit you left behind ~
A lot subtler than Rum Pum Pum Pum. I think it really nails the creepy vibe they were looking for, even though it doesn’t come close to my personal Pink Tape trinity of RPPP, Step and Airplane.
Anyway, how crazy are the credits for this song? Sophie Ellis-Bextor, “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” composer Cathy Denis…

This is a 10 for me based on this rubric, my favorite F(X) song along with Butterfly.
Just my opinion

One of the top 5 Kpop B-sides ever imo. It’s a testament to f(x)’s weirdness and brilliance; there’s nothing else like it not only in Kpop, but really anywhere in music.

You’re not crazy. Thanks for catching that! It’s fixed now. I’m surprised that nobody’s mentioned it until now!

This is definitely one of my favorite f(x) songs, easily a 10. 🙂 after the year between electric shock and Rum Pum Pum Pum, the “art film” released using this song reinvigorated my love for them completely. This song may have more listens by me than any other song of theirs.

I haven’t heard another K-pop song like this. It’s dreamy, childish, whimsical, a little creepy. I like the bounciness of the beat.
