K-Pop A-Z Review: f(x) – Signal

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Keep up with f(x)’s A-Z reviews here!

Signal (from Pink Tape – 2013)

Those who are loving K-pop’s current dalliance with disco music will find plenty to admire about Signal. From its wispy strings to its indelible groove, the song bumps with the best of them. Its instrumental remains remarkably stable for an f(x) song, which lends great spotlight to the group’s performance. The charismatic verses are a ton of fun, but Signal’s true star is its splashy chorus. I love the crescendo this refrain builds to. It feels well-earned and exciting without being overly disruptive. We’re also treated to a short Amber rap during the bridge, which takes advantage of the track’s percolating electro bass.
