Spit It Out (from Red Light – 2014)
Spit It Out’s introduction is quite exciting, unveiling an ascending bed of synths and vocals. This quickly collapses into an off-kilter rap before segueing into a rapid-fire melodic verse. The song moves at such a breakneck speed that it’s almost hard to keep track of. Like other f(x) efforts of this nature, I wish Spit It Out opted for a more dynamic chorus than the electronic sputter that forms its centerpiece. But, this sonic freakout is definitely in keeping with the track’s anything-goes energy, and isn’t disruptive to the overall flow. There are so many ideas bouncing around here, making Spit It Out easier to appreciate and analyze than fully enjoy. If nothing else, it’s a real workout.

Interestingly, the way you review this reflects my thoughts on a lot of other f(x) songs, but not this one! For some reason the weird/abrasive elements here are put together in such a way that I enjoy it instead of feeling like my ears are being assaulted (even if it is an interesting assault).
It does feel like its missing something though. A chorus, probably.
