Dracula (from Red Light – 2014)
Maybe it was because I grew up with Thriller, but I’ve always loved a cheesy Halloween-themed pop track. And, as gimmicky as Dracula could have been, f(x) turn it into one of their highlights. The theatrical production hits hard, incorporating creepy church organs and perfectly-placed shrieks into its stomping electro-pop base. But, it’s Dracula’s melody that really gets me going. From verse to chorus, it’s brilliantly conceived, rushing forward when it has to, pulling back for drama, and going all in for its largely-wordless chorus. This is one of the catchiest tracks in f(x)’s arsenal, and such a perfect example of pop song artifice. No need for naval-gazing symbolism here! If you’re going to make it this enjoyable, I’m fine with a silly Dracula song.

~ Rest in peace, Sulli. We will forever be grateful for the incredible music and spirit you left behind ~
The best b-side on Red Light. Imagine if this received a Halloween-themed music video.

hard to believe the coincidence of two ‘Dracula’s being reviewed consecutively. and one is clearly superior to the other.

This song has a killer hook. It grabbed me and didn’t let go until I screamed.

I think I prefer both Milk and Vacance, but it’s really a killer (huh) track.
It’s amazing the way they released three absolutely outstanding albums in just 3 years. And each one with a palette of sounds and vibe of its own.

Now I desperately want someone from this generation to do a cheesy-themed halloween song (Maybe new SM Girl Group , I really hope they have something like F(x)’s Bsides)

So my Dracula story is that one time, my brother and I were out driving and I had my phone playing songs through Bluetooth, which stops the track when you get out and automatically plays it again as soon as you start the car up. Dracula came on and played just the spoken intro, we happened to stop and get out, and a bit later when we returned my phone then played it exactly where it left off—which meant we were greeted to a BLOODCURDLING SHRIEK with volume almost all the way up, first thing. Needless to say we shat ourselves and now I think about that moment every damn time I listen to this.
Oh yeah but it’s an excellent track as well. My favorite “spooky” song in kpop!

Every time I think of this song it’s the performance of it at their concert – that was posted on youtube several times lol – and how fun and theatrical it was. I always wished they’d done a special halloween stage for this song but ALAS

This article series is making me miss f(x) so much. 😿 I don’t feel like any of the 3rd or now 4th generation girl groups have really stepped up as somewhat successors to their sounds unlike most other popular groups that agencies strive to mimic.
