K-Pop A-Z Review: f(x) – Traveler (ft. Zico)

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Keep up with f(x)’s A-Z reviews here!

Traveler (ft. Zico) (from 4 Walls – 2015)

Traveler has a slinky dance beat that’s quite addictive. To describe the texture, the best word I can think of is “corrugated,” though I guess “oscillating” is probably the better musical term. Either way, that off-kilter percussive loop is pure bliss. It’s also used in the best way – underlining the verses but pulling away for the ethereal pre-chorus. Traveler’s chorus isn’t super catchy or developed, but I’d argue that it’s not really the focus of the song anyway. The real meat is within the verses – especially toward the song’s middle when f(x) and Zico trade lines for some ultra-satisfying interplay. This song is spacey, weird and wonderful.
