K-Pop A-Z Review: f(x) – Papi

One song. Every day. Alphabetical order.

Keep up with f(x)’s A-Z reviews here!

Papi (from 4 Walls – 2015)

Papi is pure fun, indebted to nothing more than having a good time. It’s a monstrous dance track, thriving on a generous dose of electro bass and a chirpy synth loop. The chorus is instantly memorable, as silly as its lyrics are. But, Papi doesn’t stop there. The truncated second verse introduces a funky sound palette, propelling momentum while managing to twist expectations. Brushes of guitar distortion paint the climax with gritty texture, building to a standout rap verse that brings us into the track’s thrilling finale. When every single element is operating on such a deliriously exciting level, resistance is futile.

  1. A 9, absolutely. This one has got to be one of my most played Spotify tracks, and it has been that way for a very long time. I can never skip it. I can also never stand still when this comes on- the energy is irresistible. B O S S – C E O!
