GOLDEN CHILD TAKE A LEAP: In-Depth Album Review – Moment

As usual, Golden Child gets the “bias group advantage” on this site. This means not only their title track and a buried treasure will be reviewed, but I’ll be taking a look at the entire new mini album Take A Leap. Check back over the next five days, as I tackle the songs one at a time.

MOMENT

1Take and TAK have gradually become one of my favorite K-pop production teams, and when I saw their names of Take A Leapā€™s tracklist, I hoped for one of their trademark electro bangers (or another Lately!). Instead, Moment (ķ˜¼ģž£ė§) is the kind of classic mid-tempo that can be found on many older boy group albums. Specifically, this track reminds me of Beastā€™s work, with a bit of Infiniteā€™s melodic touch. I appreciate the nostalgia, even if this isnā€™t the style of song Iā€™m likely to seek out all that often.

Moment thrives on well-structured melody. From verse to rap to chorus, the track flows naturally. While none of its pieces may be all that striking on their own, they come together to forge a satisfying, sentimental pop track. As usual, Golden Child elevate Moment with their vocal performance, giving everyone a chance to shine. Unsurprisingly, the main vocalists are the highlight, but I also like the sing-song rap verses. And though he may be designated as the groupā€™s main dancer, Donghyun is slowly becoming a dark horse in the vocal department, drawing attention with the steadily increasing strength of his performance.

  3. It’s alright. My mind went to Block B midtempos of the same era, if only because I own Block B albums with midtempo bsides and not Beast albums.

I think a more accomplished and confident vocal line would have amped up the virtuosity and ad libs on the break starting at 2:38 and the final chorus starting at 2:55. Higher, louder, longer falsetto, more runs, etc. As is, it is an about average performance compared to other boy bands.
    It meets expectations.

  9. It’s so interesting to see people with very different views and tastes here. I enjoy this new album a lot, but I guess I’m an older Kpop fan, so I like mellow songs with a bit of longing, nostalgic feeling, which is exactly what Pass Me By and Moments deliver. That said, I’m just happy Golcha is not yet another boy group with overtly aggressive or angry sounds…
