As usual, Golden Child gets the “bias group advantage” on this site. This means not only their title track and a buried treasure will be reviewed, but I’ll be taking a look at the entire new mini album Take A Leap. Check back over the next five days, as I tackle the songs one at a time.

MOMENT

1Take and TAK have gradually become one of my favorite K-pop production teams, and when I saw their names of Take A Leap’s tracklist, I hoped for one of their trademark electro bangers (or another Lately!). Instead, Moment (혼잣말) is the kind of classic mid-tempo that can be found on many older boy group albums. Specifically, this track reminds me of Beast’s work, with a bit of Infinite’s melodic touch. I appreciate the nostalgia, even if this isn’t the style of song I’m likely to seek out all that often.

Moment thrives on well-structured melody. From verse to rap to chorus, the track flows naturally. While none of its pieces may be all that striking on their own, they come together to forge a satisfying, sentimental pop track. As usual, Golden Child elevate Moment with their vocal performance, giving everyone a chance to shine. Unsurprisingly, the main vocalists are the highlight, but I also like the sing-song rap verses. And though he may be designated as the group’s main dancer, Donghyun is slowly becoming a dark horse in the vocal department, drawing attention with the steadily increasing strength of his performance.
