It’s ‘Golden Child comeback’ time again, which means a track-by-track review of their new album, Game Changer! Check back each day of the week as I make my way through the ten new songs.
1. Game Changer (Intro) // 2. Ra Pam Pam // 3. Bottom Of The Ocean // 4. Fanfare // 5. Singing In The Rain // 6. Game // 7. Spell // 8. Out The Window // 9. Poppin’ // 10. That Feeling // 11. I Know
That Feeling (Seungmin, Donghyun & Jaehyun)
I’ve mentioned this before, but one of the many qualities I love about Golden Child is their deep bench of vocalists. While not every member has the skillset necessary to be considered a “main” vocal, all have charming, easily identifiable tones. In fact, there are a number of songs on this album that don’t feature rap at all because even the group’s rappers can reinvent themselves as vocalists.
Seungmin, Donghyun and Jaehyun make a fantastic trio, each with a different appeal. Seungmin’s smooth vocal would be strong enough to front an entire group, and has an appealing sweetness. Donghyun may be known as Golden Child’s main dancer, but his lines often steal the show. There’s so much character in his voice. Jaehyun’s husky tone adds a texture different from anyone else in the group, and works especially well on softer songs like this.
That Feeling (느낌적인 느낌) is the kind of subdued, nostalgic track that sounds as if it could have been recorded in any decade. It’s not flashy enough to be a single, but its melodies are inviting and its warm, brassy instrumental is incredibly comfortable. It comes across as the soundtrack to a lazy Sunday morning, wafting out of the speaker with an unassuming energy. And though it’s not the kind of song I’d seek out often, that rhythmic chorus goes down easy. It’s just so jaunty and pleasant, guaranteed to raise your spirits.

My favorite song on the album. I’m a sucker for the the staccato piano that comes in and out. This might be a strange reference but the piano reminds me of “the bubble song” from SpongeBob. Is there a genre for this type of music?
Also the Babyface song you recommended a while ago (every time I close my eyes) continues to be my jam. You always recommend music I like

I feel I’ve heard this song before. I do really like the songs regardless, but it feels like it’s been done before. The melody is sweet, the instrumentation pleasant. A nice song, even despite how much my brain is trying to remember what this song this reminds me.
