I Don’t Know (from Evolution – 2011)
One of Infinite’s most aggressively energetic tracks, I Don’t Know blasts forward on a blend of frantic electronics and crunchy guitar reminiscent of 90’s j-pop and video game soundtracks. That all sounds like a recipe for disaster, but the song’s bombastic production is anchored by a standout chorus that melds its soaring refrain with more staccato jolts. It all flies by so quickly — with so many elements thrown around at once — that it’s easy to get lost in the noise. Further listens tease out the details, like that blistering guitar solo that laces the track’s final moments. Infinite’s sound has long been traced back to 80’s synthpop, but this is a different type of throwback that works just as well.
