Cover Girl (from Paradise – 2011)

Of all the group’s album tracks, Cover Girl feels best positioned to become an actual promoted single. Stuffed to the brim with bright synths, the song kicks off with full energy from the start. The beatbox vocal ad-libs that precede each verse are some of my favorite production elements in any Infinite track, even if they are a bit too buried in the mix. More prominent is Cover Girl’s explosion of a chorus, which pulls together the group’s vocals for a larger than life sound that is the very definition of pop song euphoria. But Cover Girl isn’t just pure fluff. Its climax gives Sungkyu one of his most goosebump-inducing sustained notes, and offers Sungyeol the rare chance to tackle rap, which is about as endearing as you’d hope it to be.
