Tic Toc (from Over The Top / Paradise – 2011)
Tackling a more experimental arrangement, Tic Toc’s staccato verses are underlined by a fitful skitter of a beat that feels as if it’s in constant flux. This sense of unrest continues into the surging chorus, which brings in touches of orchestration. From here, the song makes a series of changes, both in melody and tempo. Its impact as a pure pop song is blunted by this feeling of disorientation, even as those very same elements make it one of Infinite’s most interesting pieces. Tic Toc will not be a song for everyone, but in many ways it previewed the group’s later, more boundary-pushing work with producers Rphabet.
