I Like You (from Infinitize – 2012)

Though 2012’s Infinitize was led by one of the group’s most bombastic singles, the actual album is much more laid-back in nature. I Like You strikes a nice balance between the era’s more acoustic leanings and a typical k-pop dance sound. The song has an incredibly light touch, perched upon a layer of fizzy synth and prominent percussion. While many of the group’s standouts hit you over the head with their hooks, I Like You gallops forward in a more subdued manner. The constant spikes of vocal ad-lib offer an engaging through-line, ornamented with nimble guitar work. It all comes to a crescendo during the gorgeous bridge, which concludes in a flurry of power notes that sweep us into the song’s final moments.
