Destiny (from Destiny – 2013)
Barring their debut, Infinite had worked with Sweetune for every title track up until Destiny, making the switch to in-house producers Rphabet a big gamble. And while Rphabet strips much of the lush melodic touch that had become the group’s trademark, Destiny’s aggressive instrumental brought a needed bite to Infinite’s sound. The guys attack the dramatic, strings-laden arrangement with one of their most ferocious performances, weaving between rapid-fire refrains with a tense crackle of clipped notes and staccato delivery. Of all their post 2013 work, Destiny truly feels like a step in a new direction and a testament to Infinite’s versatility.

This one took a bit to grow on me, I think because the chorus (“cause you’re my destiny” *epic strings* “hoooo~”) isn’t an incredibly catchy vocal melody. The rest of the song is melodically rich, though, and I appreciate the bombast.
