Light (Sungkyu solo) (from Season 2 / Be Back – 2014)

A real breather moment on the Season 2/Be Back album, Light takes a soft approach that requires a few listens to fully ingratiate itself. Gone is the sense of unique quirkiness that permeates Sungkyu’s best solo work, replaced with a gentle pop lilt that impresses with its subdued nature. It’s not one of the group’s obvious standouts, even if Sungkyu’s emotive performance squeezes everything possible from the song. The jazzy middle eight is especially effective, crashing in and out with a gorgeous succession of harmonies drenched in dulcet layers of wispy strings.
