Reflex (from Season 2 / Be Back – 2014)

Embracing 80’s synthpop stronger than ever before, Reflex feels like a sonic sequel to Be Mine. The instrumental is built on the old Stock Aitken Waterman drum program sound that powered so many late-80’s classics, but the layered chorus is all Infinite. The song never builds to the kind of vocal or production fireworks present in the group’s best work, and that’s okay. What we get instead is an impossible catchy trifle that revels in its inherent cheesiness. As a late-album highlight, that’s more than enough for Reflex to stand out among the group’s many b-side tracks.
