I feel like I need to begin every Infinite review or post by reminding everyone that they are my ultimate bias group, and although I’ll try to be somewhat objective, I’m going to like pretty much everything they do. That being said, Can’t Get Over You is probably my least favorite single they’ve ever released as a group, which just goes to show how incredible their catalog is. Now, even their worst single is still better than a lot of what’s out there, and my judgement here is really more a matter of personal taste than quality. I love dramatic Infinite, or propulsive poppy Infinite. I’m not quite as into sexy, Spanish guitar Infinite. That’s not to take anything away from sexy or Spanish guitar, but it’s just not what I look for when it comes to my favorite group.
However, I’m glad the guys are experimenting a bit with this release. In general, their original Japanese singles have a very different sound to their Korean ones, and that’s pretty cool. Plus, the track really allows them to show off their vocals. It’s a facet of their group performance where they are supremely underrated, and it’s nice to hear them focus on a more melodic piece of music after the frenetic stop/start energy of Bad. The song itself is a real grower. Like 24 Hours earlier this year, it could do with a little pruning and tightening up, but the melody of the chorus definitely sticks after awhile. Still, both For You and Love Of My Life (the other new songs on their just-released Japanese album) are superior tracks in my opinion.
