Dilemma (from Dilemma – 2015)

As Infinite’s first original Japanese single, Dilemma had a lot to live up to. The guys took a hard swerve into heavy metal with the instrumental’s guitar crunch and percussive stomp. It’s a transformation that works surprisingly well, retaining the group’s sense for an indelible hook while dressing their sound in enough bombast to power an entire rock opera. It all climaxes in a blistering, electric guitar fueled breakdown that segues into a powerful series of extended notes. It’s a style that Infinite hasn’t pursued since, but should be revisited in their Korean material — especially given leader Sungkyu’s roots with rock music.
