INFINITE TOP SEED: In-Depth Album Review – Synchronise

Infinite’s long-awaited comeback resulted in the title track Tell Me, which divided opinion on this site and others. It’s taken from the group’s third full-length album, Top Seed, and kicks off a string of ten other newly released songs. Just like with 2016’s Infinite Only, I’m here to offer my thoughts on every single one of them. Check back each day for several mini-reviews, and be sure to take a look at my sprawling K-Pop A-Z page for thoughts on the group’s entire catalog.

1. Begin // 2. Tell Me // 3. Synchronise // 4. No More // 5. TGIF (Dongwoo solo) // 6. Pray // 7. Why Me // 8. Wind // 9. I Hate // 10. Reminisce (L solo) // 11. Love Song (Sungjong solo) // 12. Begin Again

SYNCHRONISE
Titled with the British spelling, Synchronise represents another new sound for Infinite. Fusing elements of Britpop with a more standard EDM surge, the song may polarize at first. Its slow-burn chorus initially seems at odds with the high BPM supporting it, but further listens bring it all together. Meanwhile, the verses are pop perfection, highlighted by a gorgeous falsetto-led pre-chorus that ranks among the album’s best moments. Dongwoo, in particular, is a total revelation as he reveals yet another asset to his chameleon-like tone. I’m not sure how it would have fared as a single (it was an early contender, according to the members), but it’s a direction I wouldn’t mind seeing the guys pursue further.

  3. This is definitely second favorite track on the album (you probably know which one I like most)! I love the harmonies on the “yeah, yeah, yeah” refrain. And for once I think that EDM actually fits well somewhere. That chorus is sky high.

    • I think I have an idea which is your top 😉
Synchronise is my 4th or 5th favorite, depending on how I’m feeling about Tell Me at the moment. I do love it, though, and it might threaten my top three eventually.
