SHINee HARD: In-Depth Album Review – Satellite

SHINee - Hard

SATELLITE

At this point, the album is slowly gaining steam. Similar to 10X, Satellite would have benefitted from a later placement in the track list. Its smooth, disco-adjacent sound would make a great comedown from higher energy songs like Like It or Identity.

I’m not completely sold on Satellite, but we’re definitely moving toward the sonic territory I prefer from SHINee. The chorus is delightful — a wispy bed of vocals accented by rhythm guitar. The sound is quite literally heaven. It’s as if you’re floating on air. The melody is also satisfying, though SHINee have recorded stronger songs within this framework.

If anything lets Satellite down, its the verses. They don’t really go anywhere, and the modern percussion feels at odds with the vibe of the chorus. I appreciate the differing tones between the verse and chorus, but the song would have been more appealing with an energy that felt consistent.

  1. Ahhhh, that lofty chorus with its beautiful harmonies. Definitely the highlight of this song, but I find the verses pleasant to listen to as well. This was the first track on the album that I added to my playlists on a first listen. An easy listening song, for sure.
