Calling Out (from Cinderella Sister OST – 2010)
f(x) recorded quite a few OST tracks in their early days, and this ballad from Luna and Krystal showcases many of that format’s strengths and limitations. Many OST ballads are only as effective as the drama they’re paired with, and much of their enjoyment comes from experiencing the story they soundtrack. Taken on its own, this is a fine – if unspectacular – Korean ballad. The girls sound wonderful as always, but Calling Out hits too many expected notes to stand as a real highlight within their discography. The melody isn’t particularly memorable, even if it builds to some nice vocal climaxes.

~ Rest in peace, Sulli. We will forever be grateful for the incredible music and spirit you left behind ~
Luna for the win. She sings circles around Krystal here. Its almost unfair. Alright, OK, its not like Krystal is “bad”, she has an average kpop girl voice. Its just that Luna is twice or thrice better than the average kpop girl voice, and this song has a clear side by side comparison. I don’t even need the lyric video to know who is singing when.
This song itself, meh.
Nick, are you going to add Luna’s version of Zico’s “It Was Love” onto your list? Luna gives a spectacular, knock it out of the park, vocal performance on it. It is a fantastic example of Luna’s range and light lyric abilities.

Not planning to, since (I think) it was billed as a Luna solo. I debated including these older OST songs as well, but since they were released under the f(x) heading I decided to throw them in.
