Every VIXX Single Ranked: From Worst to Best

Every VIXX Single Ranked - From Worst to BestI’ve listed my “top tens” for many artists, but it’s time to rummage through entire discographies and rank every single from worst to best. This feature will primarily tackle groups who have disbanded or gone on indefinite hiatus. It’s a way for me to re-evaluate my initial thoughts on their singles run. Don’t be surprised if the order has changed from past countdowns. These things are always in flux!

25. Hana-Kaze (2016)

A dull ballad that pales in comparison to their strongest slow burns. (full review)

24. Walking (2019)

A standard fan service track with gentle, affirming energy.

23. Amnesia (2023)

An underwhelming coda to the VIXX story, delivered by just half of the group’s original members. (full review)

22. Lalala (Ai wo Arigato) (2017)

A nice chorus and vocal performance, but otherwise quite generic.

21. Girls, Why? (with Okdal) (2013)

Soft, melodic and a bit of an outlier in their discography.

20. Reincarnation (2018)

A languid, skittering dance track that skimps on the hooks. (full review)

19. Scentist (2018)

Firmly ensconced in their slinky pop era, Scentist matured their sound in a subdued way. (full review)

18. Fantasy (2016)

Leans into the group’s inherent theatricality, but lurches just as often as it soars. (full review)

17. The Closer (2016)

Not my preferred sound for the group, but I think it’s the strongest of its ilk. (full review)

16. Super Hero (2012)

A somewhat inauspicious debut from a group who would go on to become quite unique.

15. Shangri-La (2017)

Traditional influences collide with future bass trends in this oft-covered fan favorite. (full review)

14. Milky Way (2016)

A buoyant, disco-kissed culmination of the group’s ultra-packed 2016 era. (full review)

13. Only U (2013)

A soft, groovy interlude that tempered the trauma unleashed by the pummeling Voodoo Doll.

12. Can’t Say (2015)

Bounding energy tethered to sentimental, J-pop style melodies.

11. Love Equation (2015)

Lovingly recreates a hit from the 90’s while showcasing their versatility as a group.

10. Rock Ur Body (2012)

An early highlight from their “pre-VIXX” sound. Generic, but very fun.

9. Depend On Me (2016)

Their strongest Japanese single and one of their most addictive choruses. (full review)

8. Chained Up (2015)

K-pop bondage never sounded so good.

7. Voodoo Doll (2013)

VIXX go full-on horror with this bloody, industrial stomp.

6. Eternity (2014)

Pounding EDM, as seen through the group’s idiosyncratic perspective.

5. Dynamite (2016)

A slick funk attack that kicked off their ambitious, multi-part Conception project. (full review)

4. On And On (2013)

A big sonic shift from their earliest material, On And On’s ferocious post-chorus put them on the map.

3. G.R.8.U (2013)

Though the darker shades of their music are often more celebrated, VIXX could also deliver a killer bubblegum pop track. (full review)

2. Hyde (2013)

An early example of VIXX’s edgy, concept-heavy sound, anchored by its jagged, sledgehammer chorus. (full review)

1. Error (2014)

The undisputed champ of high-concept, dramatic sci-fi dance pop. It’s almost operatic in its evocative theatricality. (full review)

  1. Eternity, Rock Ur Body and Love Equation are my top 3 favorites. they have such a strong singles run that plenty of newer generation groups could only wish.

  2. I expected Error will be on top and I’m happy that it was! Seriously the mellow yet dramatic mood of that song is brilliant and I still enjoy it so much!

Other than that my faves from them are Voodoo Doll (It’s a prime example of where even when the concept isw so eye catching and dramatic, the song still keeps your attention), Fantasy, Shangri La and Chained Up!

  4. Still can’t get over this group. Not only did they kill concepts on their singles, but their albums were largely so well thought out and enjoyable from start to finish. My top three singles are On and On, Error, and Voodoo Doll, but honestly almost everything they released was bop-worthy for me. They had so many single-worthy Bsides. I also seem to be a bigger Scentist shooter than you. I love me some slinky VIXX.

  5. “Error” is one of my favorite songs, over all genres, of all time. I love a lot of VIXX’s material (“Hyde”, “On and On” being my other favorites), but I just can’t imagine any other song taking the top place here. As you put it in your review, “It’s simply perfect.” Even the silly-ass video (Ravi’s hat, the machine simply saying “ILLEGAL”) can’t detract from it.
