If there’s anything I’ve learned from covering pop music for over a decade, it’s that songwriters and collaborators are just as important as the artists themselves. Though they often work behind the scenes, this feature is a chance to shine the light on some of k-pop’s most innovative and accomplished producers and composers.
ANDREW CHOI
Years active: 2012-present
Associated Acts: EXO, Shinee, TVXQ, Shinhwa, DAY6
His sound: High-octane dance pop rooted in classic r&b hooks. Dabbles in a multitude of genres, but always driven by a timeless sense of melody and bright, immaculately produced pop sheen.
Why you should love him: Though he may be most well known for coming in third place during K-Pop Star Season 2, Andrew Choi is also a prolific songwriter/producer. The bulk of his work has been for SM Entertainment’s roster of artists, but other agencies have enlisted his skills as well. When Andrew Choi’s name is attached to a track, you never know exactly how it might sound. But what you can be sure of is that the song will impress with its hook-driven polish and widescreen appeal.

Thank you for this!!! I fell in love with the NCT’s 100 and had to search out the songwriters, who knew I’ve been grooving to this man artistry for literally YEARS now.
