If there’s anything I’ve learned from covering pop music for over a decade, it’s that songwriters and collaborators are just as important as the artists themselves. Though they often work behind the scenes, this feature is a chance to shine the light on some of k-pop’s most innovative and accomplished producers and composers.
Collapsedone
Years active: 2011-present
Associated Acts: DAY6, Twice, 2PM, G.Soul, GOT7, Wonder Girls
His sound: Classic pop melodies with emotional, well-developed choruses. Driving beats that incorporate retro synths and rock elements for a nostalgic appeal.
Why you should love him: If you’re a fan of JYP artists, you’ll likely be familiar with Collapsedone’s work. Though he’s branched out to other agencies here and there, he’s co-composed the bulk of DAY6’s discography and provided memorable hits for G.Soul and Twice. It’s hard to put a definitive stamp on what a Collapsedone track sounds like, but you can always count on a solid melody and dynamic instrumental. His music doesn’t feel driven by trends, which gives it a timeless quality. It’s moody without being downbeat, but he knows how to churn out a big, fizzy dance track as well.
