If there’s anything I’ve learned from covering pop music for over a decade, it’s that songwriters and collaborators are just as important as the artists themselves. Though they often work behind the scenes, this feature is a chance to shine the light on some of k-pop’s most innovative and accomplished producers and composers.
DUBLE SIDEKICK
Years active: 2011-present
Associated Acts: Sistar, Girl’s Day, ZE:A, Bestie, T-ara, MBLAQ, Boys Republic
Their sound: Bombastic, go-for-broke choruses with repetitive instrumental hooks. A willingness to experiment with genre, but anchored by a bright, sing-along pop melody.
Why you should love them: Duble Sidekick have one of the more diverse sounding catalogs of any major k-pop production team. It’s hard to put your finger on what exactly constitutes their trademark sound, but when looking at the sheer amount of hits under their belt, it’s clear that they have the midas touch when it comes to pop music. Artists flock to them when they’re looking for an accessible, yet quirky hit that’s guaranteed to stick in listener’s memories after just one play. Though they’re more notable for their work with girl groups, they’ve also crafted some of the best, upbeat boy group singles of the past few years.
