If there’s anything I’ve learned from covering pop music for over a decade, it’s that songwriters and collaborators are just as important as the artists themselves. Though they often work behind the scenes, this feature is a chance to shine the light on some of k-pop’s most innovative and accomplished producers and composers.
e.one
Years active: 2010-present
Associated Acts: ZE:A, Cosmic Girls, MyName, April, Nine Muses
Their sound: Bright, fizzy pop melodies often incorporating strings and 80’s synth riffs. Surging choruses with driving, propulsive beats and a focus on sugary, instantly memorable hooks.
Why you should love them: Though e.one often create idol groups’ album tracks rather than title tracks, their music is definitely not simple filler. They’ve crafted April’s burgeoning pop sound, as well as supplying Cosmic Girls with their best single yet. Their work with boy groups is particularly melodic, harnessing the lighter side of k-pop and delivering accessible, anthemic melodies that stand the test of time. It feels like they’re only one or two major hits away from becoming ubiquitous.
