If there’s anything I’ve learned from covering pop music for over a decade, it’s that songwriters and collaborators are just as important as the artists themselves. Though they often work behind the scenes, this feature is a chance to shine the light on some of k-pop’s most innovative and accomplished producers and composers.
ONEPIECE
Years active: 2014-present
Associated Acts: Lovelyz, Uhm Jung Hwa, EXO-CBX, History, Suzy
Their sound: Quirky, synth-based dance music with a retro feel. Big bubblegum hooks, contrasted with unusual instrumental touches and tempo changes.
Why you should love them: OnePiece is a trio of musicians, but founding member (and k-pop legend) Yoon Sang also composes material for idol groups on his own. In both cases, the collective crafts irresistible pop music that feels just outside of the box without straying far from a powerful sense of catchiness. Though most of their work has centered around girl group Lovelyz, Sang has proven that he can create a powerful boy group track as well. OnePiece doesn’t have as much material under their belt as other producers, but they’re definitely one to watch.
Examples of their best work:
Wow, I never knew one piece produced “what am I to you”. AKA the best boy band song of all time! So happy to know

It’s credited to Yoon Sang only, but since he’s the main force behind OnePiece, I thought it was appropriate to include it!
