There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.
There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.
So, get ready for a summer of K-pop on The Bias List!

Seventeen – Swimming Fool (2017)
Seventeen’s performance team has delivered some of the group’s most satisfying material, and Swimming Fool is a great representation of their pop appeal. The song picks up where SHINee’s View left off, tethered to a deep house beat that gives Fool a groovy structure that deepens as it continues to build. The track is relatively straightforward, but works its way under your skin with each repetition of its catchy chorus. I love the filtered effect on the guys’ vocals. It gives that song a hazy texture that mirrors the heat and humidity of the summer season. I wouldn’t mind a Seventeen title track in this vein.
