SUMMER OF K-POP: Halo – Fever

There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.

There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.

So, get ready for a summer of K-pop on The Bias List!

Halo – Fever (2014)

Never underestimate the power of a good “doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo!” vocal hook. Seriously, Fever’s post-chorus hook is just about as catchy as can be. But even before that hits, you know you’re in for a good time. Right from the start, the track powers forward with an exciting dance beat that still feels fresh today. I love the crunchy dance breaks spread throughout the track, but it’s the bright, retro synths and filtered brass that truly tie this song to summer. It’s a top-down, hands-in-the-air singalong, and we can always do with more of those these days.

  1. There’s something about this song that is so 2010-2012 kpop to me and I love it.

Halo is one of those groups I’m really bitter about them not “making it”.
O.M.G was one of my favorite 2018 summer songs and then they disappeared only to have 3 members show up on a Produce show (shocker)! And I watched that Produce show only for them all to drop out!! and now they’re in a jpop group! Amazing. I guess I have to appreciate the hustle.
