There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.

There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.

Bigbang – We Like 2 Party (2015)

Bigbang have a number of party tracks that fit well with summer, but We Like 2 Party feels especially tethered to the season. Over a laid-back, guitar-strumming hip-hop beat, the guys offer a breezy melody that captures the lighter side of their blockbuster persona. The chant-along chorus has major potential for cringe-appeal, but its good-natured delivery eases the saccharine nature of the hook. I especially love how the track becomes more loose as it goes on, painting the illusion that listeners just happened to catch Bigbang having a casual, impromptu jam session in the backyard.
