There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.
There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.
So, get ready for a summer of K-pop on The Bias List!

Red Velvet – You Better Know (2017)
Red Velvet crafted the quintessential summer 2017 album with Red Flavor, and the pulse-pounding You Better Know stands as one of its highlights. The track barrels forward with the best kind of EDM power, climaxing in a gargantuan chorus that harnesses one of the group’s strongest melodies. Wendy has never been better utilized in a dance track, unleashing that megawatt voice via a melody that stretches to the heavens. Girl groups don’t often adopt this powerful, club-ready sound, but when they do it’s a transcendent experience. The song becomes even more majestic as additional synths join the party during the bridge, building to an explosive, vocal-rich finale.

Red Velvet’s 2017 was astonishing. That ‘The Red Summer’ + ‘The Perfect Velvet’ one-two punch remains perfect.

This is absolute favorite b-side of Red Velvet. It’s the perfect summer song and they did SUCH A SMART MOVE to promote it with Red Flavor because that combo has ruled my summer playlist for years now.

Have to agree with you on this, definitely one of my favourite red b-side tracks. The live performance of this song is always so ebullient, it’s pretty obvious the girls love performing it.

Will we get a Loving U review as a part of this feature or would that be a Legendary Song post? It’s been mentioned countless times but never got its own post.

That’s a good question that I’m not sure I have an answer to yet. We’ll see if it pops up on my shuffle. Either way, it’s definitely worth a Legendary Song post.

Is there a more specific way you can describe this than EDM? I’m trying to find beats of this nature
