There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.
There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.
So, get ready for a summer of K-pop on The Bias List!

Eric Nam – Ooh Ooh (ft. Hoya) (2014)
Though it lacks the layered vocal arrangement iconic to their tracks, Ooh Ooh is actually a Sweetune composition. In fact, it’s a collaboration between Han Jae-ho and Kim Seung-soo of Sweetune and Hwang Hyun of Monotree, representing and era where those two teams were each beginning to branch out on their own. It’s also a song that features Infinite’s Hoya, so this pretty much has all the ingredients to make me happy. Never mind that Ooh Ooh is a frothy, brass-kissed disco pop track with a killer hook. There’s really nothing to hate here – just pure, upbeat fun that thrives on Eric Nam’s natural sense of showmanship.

Gosh. “Ooh Ooh” is always the song that I want to hear at his concerts and… alas. It really is too bad that a lot of Eric Nam songs don’t take as much advantage of his easy, breezy personality as this one, so he may never warrant a Top 10 Singles post from you, huh?

Since this came out Ooh Ooh has been one of my favorite Kpop songs. The brass, the ear worm hook, the two raps, the Michael Jackson homage, plus the jubilant video—it’s a total 10 for me.
