There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.
There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.
So, get ready for a summer of K-pop on The Bias List!

Dickpunks – Let’s Play In The Han River (2015)
I’ve always adored this song, and it’s a fixture on any of my summer playlists. It has a loose, freewheeling feel to it, harnessing the groove of a good jam session while retaining a tight pop structure. The chorus is a wonderful throwback, cruising on a hearty melody backed by doo-wop vocals. Nearly every moment of Let’s Play In The Han River (한강에서 놀아요) is a punchy hook (my favorite is when they un-ironically shout “bike! ride! ing!”). This is just an immensely good time, perfect for livening up any summer gathering (as if any of us are doing that this year…).

I have to say that I never really listen to this group, but between this group name and Drug Restaurant, I think they tie for unusual names in English. But not quite on the level of “Toad the Wet Sprocket”.
True they are boys but there is nothing punk here.

They’re soooo not punk. The name has always mystified me, but I dig the singer’s voice.
