There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.
There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.
So, get ready for a summer of K-pop on The Bias List!

Super Junior – Dancing Out (2006)
I get the feeling that most casual fans aren’t too familiar with this single, and that’s a shame. Released as part of SM’s Special 2006 Summer Album, Dancing Out is pure, unadulterated pop, unashamed by its own kitschiness. I’ve always loved the melody in the verses, and felt that it aped a million different 80’s tracks without being a total copy. The chorus is also a goofy good time, surging with a fun power pop hook. The rap breakdown is… interesting, to say the least. But, that was K-pop back in the mid-00’s. It all climaxes in an extended finale that really brings the sing-into-your-hairbrush, karaoke energy.

Look, it starts with Heechul the rapper singing, because rappers can sing too!
This ELF doesn’t even have this song, this is how obscure it is. And somehow it is, what, number 10 on your SuJu songs of all time, the one you say needs revising, what?!
Yeah
No
8.75? 8.75? What?!
I disagree here. If I am going for old time SuJu ridiculously happy clappy summer fare, this would be my choice, complete with Free Hugs:
(Look, Heechul the rapper is singing again.)

Yeah… that list needs major revising. I love this song, but it does not belong on a top ten list. What was I smoking back then?!?

NOSTALGIA, this, the Suju version of Full of Happiness, and Hi ya ya are my pesonal K-Pop summer songs. But 2019’s Wave is also excellent and has penetrated the list, let us hope it stays there
