There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.
There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.
So, get ready for a summer of K-pop on The Bias List!

B1A4 – You Make Me A Fool (2014)
This is not the kind of K-pop track I usually love. It’s laid-back to a fault, often relying on little more than gentle acoustic guitar and vocals. Yet, B1A4’s performance is so note-perfect, their calming tones adding to the song’s relaxed appeal. And for such a subdued track, You Make Me A Fool’s melody can be surprisingly dynamic. Its chorus crests with emotion, and features a few brilliant touches of vocal harmony. Its bridge feels especially potent, pairing an ascending melody with a hip-hop verse for great contrast. This is a summertime staple for me.
