SUMMER OF K-POP: Boys Republic – Dress Up

There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.

There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.

So, get ready for a summer of K-pop on The Bias List!

Boys Republic – Dress Up (2014)

This song was released right around the time I started watching Music Bank on a weekly basis, and Boys Republic’s colorful, patterned stage outfits and energetic performance still lingers in my mind. The group has some criminally underrated material, and Dress Up is right at the top. I love songs that use a catchy chant to fuel their structure, yet don’t rely on it as the sole hook. Dress Up’s catchy frame and funky, guitar-fueled instrumental make it perfectly suited to any time of year, but the track will always remind me of summer. It’s practically guaranteed to brighten up your day.

  1. God I miss them… just like BAP (who also peaked at the same time as Boys Republic did), they could have been on EXO or BTS popularity levels if their respective companies actually promoted them.

Also, Boys Republic Minsu is re-debuting in a J-pop boy group called Young&Wild, and I will be anticipating that 😦 but i guess that means boysrep is over for now
