There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.
There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.
So, get ready for a summer of K-pop on The Bias List!

ZE:A – Watch Out!! (2011)
Watch Out is about as light and fluffy as boy group K-pop gets, but it does so without going overly cutesy (that is, if you don’t watch the music video…). Released as a special summer single in 2011, the track bounds along upbeat synths, rhythm guitar and programmed drum fills that give it a slightly retro feel. But, the song is also powered by strong vocals – particularly as it hits its dynamic climax. While the melody is a little too inconsequential to seek out on its own, it’s pretty hard to dislike a track this amiable. We even get a cheesy “lalalalalala” from Kwanghee.
