There are few things I enjoy more than a great summertime song. They’re bright, they’re exciting, and they remind me of my favorite time of the year.
There’s no telling what this summer in K-pop will bring, but over the next few weeks I’ll be flashing back each day, showcasing a highlight from past summers. The rules are simple: I fire up my carefully compiled “K-pop summer” playlist, hit ‘shuffle,’ and if the song that pops up hasn’t already been featured on the site, it gets a post and mini-review of its own.
So, get ready for a summer of K-pop on The Bias List!

Sistar – I Swear (2014)
Today is going to the be last day for this season of the Summer of K-pop feature, and I’m so glad my iTunes shuffle landed on a Sistar track to take us out.
In my mind, no K-pop group is more closely connected to summer, and I Swear (아이 스웨어) stands as one of the best examples of that. Like many of Sistar’s summer singles, the track hinges on the breezy, brassy production of Duble Sidekick, expertly layering the group’s refreshing vocals on top. The chorus is pure bliss – the aural equivalent of an ocean breeze as Sistar’s voices are layered to create a beautiful texture. I Swear’s structure echoes previous hit (and legendary song) Loving U, down to the bright, playful rap by Bora. But, this track has a more refined appeal, with Sistar comfortably embracing their role as K-pop’s undisputed Queens of Summer.

I’m really fond of this track, reminds me of a lost AKB48 summer singled filtered through a kpop lense (In fact it’s really reminiscent of Manatsu no Sounds Good, same key and similar intervals in the brass section riff)

Oh yes, it is my favorite album this year after Holy Nights. A little introspective but if you liked Lemon it is epic. Even if you did not, it still is great! Placebo is my personal favorite

Now, this is how you do a summer song right! This is what we are missing this summer, where we are filled with too many trendy and generic songs.
