In honor of Kis-My-Ft2’s complete videography being uploaded to YouTube (in edited form, of course…), I can’t resist writing about each single. To put this in context for Bias List readers, Kis-My-Ft2 (or Kisumai, as they’re often known) are my J-pop version of Infinite. That’s how much I love them and their discography.
Yet, I rarely write about them because finding online links to their music was so hard… until now!
She! Her! Her! (2012)
Stripping away some of the rock influences of their first two singles, She! Her! Her! opts for a more electronic sound. It’s one of the group’s more popular, emblematic tracks. It also has a wonderfully weird and silly video.
The song’s “She! Her! Her!” hook has become an iconic piece of Kisumai’s discography. It’s the kind of wonderfully random phrase a native English speaker would never come up with, but its nonsensical nature works so well for pop music. I actually prefer the verses, which weave a great melody that’s surprisingly evocative for such an upbeat track. These early Kisumai tracks are so earnestly goofy, but the melodies are so, so solid.
For those missing guitar, She! Her! Her!’s rap/rock bridge will give you everything you need. Electric guitar shreds as the pace picks up and the track becomes an all-out party. You can’t be overly critical of pop music this bubblegum. You just have to give in and enjoy the ride.

You see, there is a reason why Jpop groups can pull of novelty and their korean counterparts cannot. It’s because while the latter just fills it with a bunch of exclamations and random words (at least, in the modern sense), Jpop has actual MELODY.
This is so good, considering Johnny’s standards it’s not all that unique but for what it does, it does excellent. The melody is so stately, so intentional and so damn cathartic. Kisumai has aced me at least three times by now.

I can hear people in stadiums shouting “SHE HER HER! SHE HER HER! SHE HER HER!” . It’s such a good hook and I like how it breaks up the song a bit.
The music video is really funny and the roller skating is still so cool!
A question, do these members have official colors? I know that concept is pretty popular ( C-ute had it show up in videos quite frequently) and they did all have different colored breath, so I’m just wondering

They do! All Johnny’s groups have official colors for the members. I think a lot of it is influenced by the popular tokusatsu genre (ie: Super Sentai — or Power Rangers, if you grew up in the West)

That makes so much sense! I like that, I think having official colors would makes for a better connection with fans and act as added individuality
