In honor of Kis-My-Ft2’s complete videography being uploaded to YouTube (in edited form, of course…), I can’t resist writing about each single. To put this in context for Bias List readers, Kis-My-Ft2 (or Kisumai, as they’re often known) are my J-pop version of Infinite. That’s how much I love them and their discography.
Yet, I rarely write about them because finding online links to their music was so hard… until now!
Perfect World (2014)
I’m pretty sure Perfect World was the first Kis-My-Ft2 song I heard (and loved) all the way through. This feels weird because it’s definitely not one of their signature moments or even all that indicative of their overall sound. But, it is a very, very good song. I can see why it had me hooked.
When we talk about “good vibes” in a pop song, Perfect World fits that bill. It just makes you feel warm and cozy and relaxed. But, this never comes at the expense of dynamic songwriting. Perfect World boasts an anthemic melody, building and building during its verses until we hit the knockout chorus. The melody does that “snowballing” thing I love so much, where the momentum grows as it goes on. I love how the percussion slams in during the second half of the first chorus, only to come back with renewed intensity later in the song. This, alongside Kisumai’s unison vocals, creates a robust sound that makes Perfect World absolutely soar.
The video is laidback in a really fun way. The guys are chilling at a vacation house, having water fights and petting cute dogs and emoting for the camera. It’s so nice to see the natural lighting on this one. Like the song, it feels very comfortable.

I’mma comment here to let Nick know that his Kisumai evangelization efforts are not in vain. The group name makes me wince but I also listen to a metal bands with names like Fvneral Fvkk so what’s in a name lmao. I take Nick’s J-Pop recommendations seriously because this site is how I found out about Higedan and they’re now one of my favorite artists.
This song is such a feel-good song and is right in my wheelhouse. Though I wish it didn’t end so abruptly like that… I’m guessing the studio version ends it properly? Like still one barrier to entry for me with J-Pop is just how hard it can be to access the stuff legitimately. I get that free unbridled access to music is not as it stands a sustainable model and I prefer to support artists I love but also shipping here to the US costs a ton…

I’m so glad to hear this! This is my own little pet project so I’m happy doing it either way, but when others connect with a song or two it makes things much more fun.
And yes, the actual song doesn’t just fade out. Most of these youtube uploads omit the last bit of music — I guess to encourage people to buy the cd? It’s irritating, but such is the way of J-pop…
