In honor of Kis-My-Ft2’s complete videography being uploaded to YouTube (in edited form, of course…), I can’t resist writing about each single. To put this in context for Bias List readers, Kis-My-Ft2 (or Kisumai, as they’re often known) are my J-pop version of Infinite. That’s how much I love them and their discography.

Yet, I rarely write about them because finding online links to their music was so hard… until now!

Kimi no Iru Sekai (2017)

For Tonight’s coupling song, the guys give us the exact opposite sound and energy. Kimi no Iru Sekai is a sentimental ballad – the likes of which every Johnny’s act has in their discography. Despite a wide variety of skill levels when it comes to vocal performance, I tend to enjoy most Kisumai ballads. They feel sincere and almost always boast strong melodies.

When it comes to J-pop ballads, Kimi no Iru Sekai is your standard sound. But, extra percussion gives it heft and drive. It’s trussed up with all the bells and whistles, creating a satisfying whole. Unlike past ballads, the line distribution is much more even. Like I said, there’s a pretty vast difference between the “best” and “worst” singers in this group, but that diversity proves charming – especially as you get to know the characters of the individual members. It’s hard to explain why this rough-around-the-edges element has so much appeal – especially to a K-pop fan used to studio perfection.

The video is ultimate cheese, depicting the guys as grooms in white suits. I’m going to assume they’re not all marrying the same person, though who am I to judge?
