I get the sense that CNBLUE’s Cinderella from last year wasn’t all that well-received. But, I appreciated the move towards a more synth/dance driven style and it actually got me more interested in the group than I’d been in quite some time. Nevertheless, You’re So Fine offers a sort of return to form, with its funky, nostalgic band sound.

Songs that sound like spring are all the rage right now in Korea, and this can certainly be added to the list. Fortunately, it has more bounce in its step than most of its peers. Accents of brass give the track a timeless quality, with a bit of disco rhythm guitar rooting it in the late seventies. The melody is bright but laid back, and matches the carefree vibe of the song perfectly. The hook, with its breezy call-and-response and falsetto-driven climax, is definitely catchy, but the rhythmic bridge continues to catch my attention most strongly. The brief spoken (rap?) portions are also highly effective, and could have been extended further for maximum impact.

I’ll admit that the first time I heard the track, I was a bit underwhelmed. It sounded pleasant but not particularly important or impactful. But, You’re So Fine benefits from repeated listens, which tease out its more subtle hooks. This is due mostly to its buoyant arrangement, which really suits this time of year. I can see it becoming a staple throughout the summer, and pairs nicely with disco-influenced tracks of the past, like B1A4’s Sweet Girl or Eric Nam’s Ooh Ooh.
