Dal Shabet isn’t a girl group that I’ve followed with any real regularity. I did love their B.B.B. from 2014 but thought last year’s Joker was pretty weak. This year, they’re the first big idol group to make a comeback, though they’re down to a four-piece (there used to be six). They’ve also enlisted super producer Brave Brothers to help them with their title track, Someone Like U. Luckily, it’s my favorite type of Brave Brothers song — high energy, fun and catchy from the get-go. In a lot of ways, it sounds like a more subdued version of AOA’s Heart Attack from last summer. What makes it really special are the heavy 80’s touches, from the synthesized drums to the Bananarama-style hooks layered onto every chorus. I also appreciate Serri’s energetic rap, which ups the energy in the second verse and keeps the song’s momentum building. Kudos to the girls for starting off the year right!
